Facebook

I’m sure everyone has heard of myspace before. It was the best thing to do on the computer since the Sims. Designing your own “space”, putting your own pictures up and finding new friends was basically all it’s about. Pretty soon, myspace was all about who had the most friends, who could look the most emo in their pictures, and basically, a place to down talk people you didn’t like instead of saying it to your face. Then there was facebook, almost like myspace, but better. It was only for college students and that was verified by your college email address. This turned out to be a great alternative to that other website, called myspace.

Soon after I made my facebook account, I really started to enjoy it. Yes, it did take some time to get used to, but nothing like myspace. No goofy backgrounds, no three million picture slideshows and no thirteen year olds trying to act cool and hang out with the high school seniors. Currently, facebook is open to high schoolers, which kind of takes away from us college students. Also new to facebook are these new, stupid, annoying applications. It seems like every time I log in to check my facebook, I have five new application notices. Relax people. With this kind of nonsense, facebook will soon become a newer version of myspace. I don’t understand why people constantly take something that is fine just the way it is and end up screwing it up!!

I got talked into finally building a facebook not that long ago. By all accounts I think that it’s a pretty good. It gives me the opportunity to catch up with friends that I lost not only when I left high school, but with those that I lost touch with after elementary and Jr. High School. I’m met a lot of people that I didn’t think that I would ever talk to them again. It’s interesting to find out what people have been up to for the last 1 to 6 years. As far as the applications go, they are annoying at times, but if you’re trying to get a message out, then I guess it’s not a bad thing. As for it turning into the new myspace, there is one true fact about history; it repeats itself.

I was the kid who constantly said Facebook is stupid and a waist of time along with myspace. After about one month, I broke down and created first a myspace then a facebook account about three weeks later. I was actually impressed with the respect ideas of facebook and that it was much more private than myspace. It gives people an opportunity to learn to network and get out there. People can find friends and make connections through common interests and network by a simple internet site. Facebook is beneficial to a person's social life and is a well developed way to contact people.

I’ll admit I made my facebook last year, as a senior in high school. But, I think that is dumb, and almost pointless to have a facebook for your high school friends. If you have a facebook when you’re in high school, and you use it to talk to your high school friends, there is no point. The purpose of facebook is for college students to catch up with and keep in touch with their friends from high school. There is no problem with being able to put pictures and write on facebook, but I agree, all the applications are getting out of hand.

Last summer my friend was always talking about facebook and I had no idea what it was because my friends and I had only had myspace. Over the weeks that I saw her she was constantly on facebook till I finally asked her what it was. She explained it to me and at the end of the description she said " tonight I am going to go home and make you one. I was like okay I guess that is cool. I mean what harm could it do to me, I was obsessed with myspace at the time so I figured what is one more. Once I got my facebook I had no idea how to work any of it. Since the summer I have been able to talk to all of my friends who I do have time to talk to on the phone, but now I do on facebook. As for the different applications I just ignore them and which doesn't take to long to do. Since the summer I can also tell that facebook is a soon to be myspace.
